Every worker matters – that includes gamers as well.
NTUC has, under its U Associate and Link Rewards Programme, collaborated with the Singapore Cybersports and Online Gaming Association (SCOGA) on a new membership programme designed especially for gamers.
NTUC Assistant Secretary-General Melvin Yong and SCOGA President Dennis Ooi launched the programme called the GAMERS.SG membership at the Sports Lifestyle Centre in Bukit Merah Central on 28 May 2022.
Members of the programme stand to enjoy exclusive members-only deals by popular esports merchants such as APOL Singapore, ASUS Singapore, Logitech G, Razer and Toy or Game.
Members will also have access to gaming workshops and enjoy free access to SCOGA’s first clubhouse, located at the Sports Lifestyle Centre.
According to SCOGA, the clubhouse is a gaming haven equipped with high-end gaming desktops, monitors, tables and chairs.
The clubhouse will be a venue for SCOGA to host programmes and activities such as community tournaments and educational workshops, as well as its Esports Academy – the association’s skills development and training arm.
Other gamer-centric perks for GAMERS.SG members include the access to career coaching services provided by the NTUC U PME Centre.
“The GAMERS.SG membership will open doors for those looking for employment opportunities in this sector, and U PME Centre can provide career support and relevant courses for members to upskill and upgrade, so they can take on roles in an industry that they are passionate about,” said Mr Yong.
Membership is currently open to all who reside in Singapore, and it is priced at $55 per annum.
NTUC and SCOGA said the programme is expected to benefit some 30,000 esports enthusiasts.
NTUC and SCOGA added that gaming is evolving to become a viable career option as the local esports industry continues to gain popularity. In view of this, the partners aim to expand career opportunities for this community by curating and organising targeted esports workshops and courses.
“Partnering with NTUC will allow us to level up in providing career training and support services to fellow Singaporeans looking to grow their careers in this fast-growing industry,” said Mr Ooi.
Through SCOGA’s Esports Academy, the association will also offer programmes that enhance members’ soft skills such as teamwork, adaptability, discipline, and creativity.
The academy will also enhance members’ technical skills such as training in esports coaching, esports operations and shoutcasting – which is the process of running commentary during esport matches.
