NTUC LearningHub (NTUC LHUB) has launched a new platform called the NTUC LHUB Tech Talent Academy (NTUC LHUB TTA), which seeks to attract and nurture tech talent in Singapore.

The platform was revealed at the Human-Tech Collaboration in our Digital Future event on 18 January 2024 at the Marina Bay Sands.

NTUC LHUB said that the academy aims to bridge the gap between the tech talent pool and demand through the sourcing, training, and placement of workers within an integrated ecosystem.

The ecosystem will provide holistic support for both workers and employers. It will consist of employers and training, placement, and funding partners.

Meanwhile, NTUC LHUB also unveiled two new initiatives that solidify its commitment to developing Singapore’s tech talent community.

This includes NTUC LHUB’s ‘X for Everyone’ series of courses covering foundational emerging technology skills and the organisation’s new ‘NTUC LearningHub for Tech’ brand identity to champion the sector through continuous skills development.

‘X for Everyone’ will cover emerging technologies essential for modern workplaces, like Cloud Computing, Generative Artificial Intelligence (Generative AI) and Cybersecurity.

To grow Singapore’s talent pool in emerging technologies, NTUC LHUB CEO Jeremy Ong said it is crucial to identify and establish the skills in demand before developing relevant and up-to-date training programmes.

He said: “The NTUC LHUB TTA will play a pivotal role in integrating jobs and skills for the sector. Working closely with government and funding agencies, employers, and key industry players, NTUC LHUB TTA will be at the nexus of coordinating and providing skills training and placing trained individuals into in-demand and emerging tech roles.”

About the Tech Talent Academy

The NTUC LHUB TTA is supported by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) and Workforce Singapore (WSG).

NTUC’s e2i (Employment and Employability Institute) and PERSOLKELLY Singapore Pte Ltd will support the TTA regarding talent sourcing and placement. At the same time, the Tech Talent Assembly (TTAB) will help curate training and mentoring for enrolled learners.

Through the TTA, individuals looking to deepen their tech skills before being placed into tech roles can expect high-quality and industry-relevant curriculum and support in career transition through job placement initiatives.

At the same time, companies looking to scale up their headcount in tech roles can tap into NTUC LHUB TTA’s talent pool to fill job vacancies.

IMDA Deputy Chief Executive Kiren Kumar said there is an increasing demand for tech professionals in Singapore, which accounts for 5.2 per cent of the country’s total employment.

“Collaborating with industry partners, the Tech Talent Academy not only addresses the current demand but also aims to upskill our workforce with relevant and current skills and experience, enabling them to leverage AI’s transformative potential.

“This initiative, extending its scope to include cloud computing and cybersecurity, ensures our workforce stays adept amidst the rapid developments in these crucial technologies,” he said.

About ‘X for Everyone’ courses

While the NTUC LHUB TTA aims to integrate the demand and supply of tech talent, NTUC LHUB’s ‘X for Everyone’ series of courses will address the growing need for all workers to acquire essential and emerging technology skills.

The courses will give learners a basic understanding of emerging technologies, including their key characteristics, concepts, and business value.

These courses have been co-created with leading technology firms to ensure relevance.

NTUC LHUB has collaborated with Amazon Web Services to develop the ‘Cloud Computing for Everyone’ series, Microsoft for the ‘Generative AI for Everyone’ series, and Cybertronium for the ‘Cybersecurity for Everyone’ series.

A new brand identity

During the event, NTUC LHUB also unveiled its ‘NTUC LearningHub for Tech’ brand identity.

The new brand identity reinforces NTUCLHUB’s commitment to the tech sector and its continued efforts to champion a culture of lifelong learning.

Mr Ong said: “As we enter a new era of economy that focuses on technology, the launch of a distinct ‘NTUC LearningHub for Tech’ sector brand identity signifies our commitment to anchor ourselves as an active contributor to the industry, to groom both current and potential talent for the economy and technology of the future.”
