Young NTUC and nEbO (nobody Enjoys being Ordinary), in collaboration with NTUC Income, have raised $18,000 to help lower-wage workers and their families as part of this year’s U Heart campaign.

NTUC Income CEO Andrew Yeo presented the cheque to NTUC Care & Share Committee Co-Chairman Raymond Chin on 20 December 2021 at Sengkang Community Club. NTUC Secretary-General Ng Chee Meng was present to witness the ceremony.

This year’s U Heart campaign saw the NTUC youth wing and junior membership arm rally over 1,000 individuals to pen messages of support and appreciation to some 3,000 healthcare workers.

NTUC Income had earlier pledged to donate $3 to the NTUC-U Care Fund for every message received. In the spirit of giving, NTUC Income further topped up the amount raised to $18,000.

Volunteers from both nEbO and Young NTUC will be distributing the messages along with a gift to the 3,000 healthcare workers working at various vaccination centres and NTUC Health nursing homes between 20 to 23 December 2021.

Mr Ng said that NTUC wants to do more to champion the welfare of workers and their families.

“These collective efforts by our youth from Young NTUC and nEbO, Labour MPs and NTUC Income affirm our strong commitment to rally everyone to support frontliners. It is especially heartwarming to see how these messages of appreciation bring a smile to the silent warriors who work at the frontlines,” he said.

NTUC Assistant Secretary-General Desmond Choo said that Young NTUC is committed to developing youths into change leaders through acts of volunteerism.

He said: “U Heart was initiated and curated as an easily accessible and well supported platform that provide our youth with the necessary resources to advocate their causes. It has since further evolved to be a joint platform with the junior membership arm of NTUC, nEbO.

“We hope this will enable more youth to step out of their comfort zones to initiate and lead future campaigns that make a difference in society.”
